1,256,300. Heating boiling liquids. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 16 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 25055/69. Heading F4S. A process for transferring heat from a warm source to a boiling liquid having a Kelvin parameter of less than 1À0 mil ‹F., e.g. oxygen, in which a thermally conductive wall is provided with a porous layer, in contact with the liquid in which the pore radii are from 0À1 to 2À5 mils (0À000254 to 0À00635 cm.). The layer is covered by at least a film of the liquid and sufficient heat is conducted therethrough to form vapour bubbles which emerge from the pores into the liquid. The layer is formed of granular or spherical particles, at least some of which may pass through a 140 mesh screen (0À105 cm.), and the layer may be formed in tubular or flat plate heat exchangers. |
