1,128,666. Portable electric drills. SKIL CORP. 22 Feb., 1966 [12 July, 1965], No. 7627/66. Heading B3C. [Also in Division H1] In a portable electric drill 10 having a trigger 17 for actuating the speed control switch 16, a device for controlling a motor reversing switch 22, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a lever 30 pivoted at 28 which engages a button 23 on the switch 22, and supports a pin 32 which is adapted to seat in one of the two legs of a cavity 33 in the trigger 17 according to the direction of motor rotation required. Lever 30 can only be pivoted to alter the direction of rotation, when the trigger 17 is fully extended. In a modification, the reversing switch has a button (59), Fig. 5 (not shown), which co-operates with an inclined slot (60) in lever (30<SP>1</SP>), so as to provide movement of the button in a direction parallel with that of the trigger. In a further modification, lever 30<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 6, moves in a direction parallel to that of the trigger, and the movement of button 59<SP>11</SP> into two positions is controlled by a spring- urged pin 70 which co-operates with two recesses 65, 66 in the lever. Pin 70 is urged into a recess when the trigger 17<SP>11</SP>is in its forward position by a cam (77), (78), Fig. 7 (not shown), on the trigger. It is stated that the reversing mechanism can be used with a trigger which controls an on-off switch and does not provide variable speed control. |
