PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound exhibiting highly excellent moisturizing effect as a moisturizer for cosmetics and medicines at extremely low cost, by subjecting soybean embryo buds to extraction with a polar solvent, saponifying the resultant extract followed by separating nonsaponified product to effect purification of the aimed product. CONSTITUTION: First, soybean embryo buds are subjected to extraction with a polar solvent (pref. a mixture of methanol, ethanol or butanol with water) followed by evaporating the solvent to dryness. Secondly, the dried product is put into pref. a 0.5M sodium hydroxide/ethanol solution followed by conducting a reaction at 70 deg.C for one hour to effect saponification of the dried product with the alkali. Subsequently, the resultant system is subjected to extraction with n-hexane or ether to separate nonsaponified product and the remaining is put to recrystallization with a solvent (pref. acetone), thus obtaining the objective compound. The compound can be obtained in more purified form by acetone fractionation of the above nonsaponified product by the aid of silica gel column chromatography. |
