Copolyfumaramides containing the group -CO-CH = CH-O- in the trans configuration are prepared by reacting a fumaryl dihalide, a (substituted) piperazine, and (a) hydrazine, or (b) an aliphatic diamine with the formula where n = 1-10 and R and R1 are hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, hydroxy, aryloxy, arylalkoxy, alkylmercapto, arylmercapto, halogen or nitro, or (c) a cycloaliphatic diamine with the formula where p and p' are 0-6, n = 0-10, R is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, arylalkoxy, alkylmercapto, arylmercapto, halogen or nitro, and the H2N -(CH2)- p or p' are in the cis or trans position in relation to the cyclohexane ring, or (d) an aromatic diamine with the formula where p and p' >= 0, n is an integer from 0 to the number of hydrogen atoms which are directly linked to the aromatic system, R is defined under (c), and Ar is an aromatic group. |
