1341343 Air cooled heat exchangers LUMMUSCO 16 May 1972 [25 June 1971] 22995/72 Heading F4S An air-cooled heat exchanger for condensing steam or other vapour comprises a plurality of inclined finned U-tubes extending between a common inlet manifold 5 and a pair of condensate collection manifolds 6 and 7. In use vapour flowing through the U-tubes is condensed therein by cooling air flowing over the tubes, the condensate flowing by gravity into the collection manifolds. The lower ends of the collection manifolds 6 and 7 are connected by a pipe 11 via a loop seal 10 to the bottom of the inlet manifold 5 from which the condensate is removed through an outlet 9. Air and uncondensed vapour are removed from the manifolds 6 and 7 through a common outlet 8. Two heat exchangers of similar configuration may be arranged to define an inverted V-formation (see Fig. 3, not shown), cooling air being passed over the tubes by means of a fan (15). The air-cooled heat exchanger can also be used for cooling liquids such as hydrocarbons and water.
