<p>Impermeable laminate is formed by feeding two polyethylene strips (1A, 1B) in spaced relation to each other while applying a layer (6) of a mixture of 65-70% asphalt, 25-30% slate shale and 5-10% latex or latex type elastomer between them at a temperature of 170 to 190 degrees C, so that the strips and mixture are bonded together under pressure. The improvement is that the polyethylene strips are simultaneously cooled by a water film applied to their outer surfaces at a distance of 20-40 cm before contact between the strips and the asphalt mixture. Film of water applied to the polyethylene strips prevents the hot asphalt damaging the polyethylene while the asphalt is hot enough to bond securely to the polyethylene.
