The invention relates to a brake controller for an electronically commutated DC motor having sensors for detecting the rotor position and sensors for the rotation speed. Commutation signals for both the clockwise and anticlockwise directions are derived simultaneously in a converter (4), from the sensor for detecting the rotor position (2). When the rotor is rotating in a predetermined direction, commutation in the opposite direction is produced for a braking process. <IMAGE>
