PURPOSE:To obtain a compact and costless control system by constituting said system so that drive pulses are supplied sequentially and with a prescribed interval to the electron beam source in the designated square area of an image pickup tube in which plural electron beam sources are disposed in matrix formation corresponding to respective picture elements. CONSTITUTION:The image-pickup mechanism of the image pickup tube is as follows: a row/column control signal (r), (c) and an enable signal RENBL/ CENBL is supplied to a row/column driver DRR/DRC, corresponding row/column drive signal R/C comes on, the electron beam source SEGm.n at the intersection of the turned-on row and column is driven and ejects in electron beam EB. Thus generated electron beam EB travels straight and incides in a photoconductive coating PC. In the mean time, the optical image of an object is formed on said coating PC through a lens system not shown in the figure, and converted to a charge distribution on said photoconductive coating PC because of its photoconductive effect, therefore, at the time of being irradiated with the electron beam EB, a current is outputted from an output terminal OUT corresponding to the charge distribution in the irradiated position.
