The invention relates to a method and a device for the production of tampons for feminine hygiene and to tampons which are produced by the method and are each formed from a cotton wool tape section which is equipped with a removal cord (8), wound up to form a cotton wool roll (5) and provided with a covering (7) of liquid-permeable nonwoven material before it is brought into its final shape by pressing forces acting upon it in the radial direction. For application of the covering (7) in a simple manner and without impairment of the absorbency of the tampon, the cotton wool roll (5) is pushed into a tube (2), on the surface of which the covering (7) is produced. After welding the overlapping longitudinal edges (7a, 7b) of the covering (7), it is shrunk at its part projecting beyond the end of the tube (2), so that a bevel (7d) is formed against which the cotton wool roll (5) rests when it is axially pushed out of the tube (2). The covering (7) which is exclusively welded to itself rests by its bevel (7d) against the removal end of the cotton wool roll (5) and sits firmly on the surface of the cotton wool roll (5). <IMAGE>
