Traffic dependent control of traffic light green phase

The traffic light control method involves an inductive loop (4) which is set into a road surface near to a set of traffic lights and is coupled to a detector (1) that connects with a processing circuit (5) that evaluates the traffic flow and particularly the delay between vehicles. The distribution of time intervals is determined and the values are used as inputs to a fuzzy logic unit (6) to allow membership values to be determined. Fuzzy rules (7) are established that allow outputs to be generated (8) that control (9) the period of the lights dependent upon traffic conditions.
