PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an unsaturated aldehyde useful as a synthetic intermediate for perfumery, vitamins, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc. from an easily available raw material on an industrial scale in high efficiency at a low cost. SOLUTION: The unsaturated aldehyde of general formula (IV) is produced by reacting an olefin of general formula (I) with an acetal of general formula (II) in the presence of a ruthenium complex of general formula (V) and deprotecting the acetal part of the obtained unsaturated acetal of general formula (III).
