PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents lowering of frictional electrification amount of toner in developing process using a contact developing method and keeps the density gradation characteristic well and which is capable of forming images stably. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus uses a contact developing method and mounts the toner and has an image carrier which carries an electrostatic latent image, and electrification polarity of frictional electrification series in the surface layer of the image carrier is heteropolar to the electrification of the toner in a developing device of the toner.
