Workpiece carriers 6 are carried by an endless chain 1 from a dust-free chamber to a worktable 9, members 7 on the chain 1 being urged by spring-loaded members 36 into registering recesses 12 of a positioning disc 11. The latter is rigid with a sprocket (5), (Fig. 2, not shown) of the chain 1 and a notched plate 14 (Fig. 3). The assembly 11, (5), 14, is rotated intermittently by a motor (21) on the shaft of which is a plate 23 carrying diametrically opposed rollers 24. The latter sequentially engage slots disposed in Maltese Cross fashion in the lower end face of the member 14. Thus each half rotation of the drive shaft of the motor 21 imparts 90 degrees of rotation to the assembly 11, (5), 14. A cam 26 on the motor shaft operates a lever 27 carrying a detent 31 which engages notches 32 in the member 14. This looks three of the carriers positively in position while work is carried out on the respective workpieces. The drive is stopped at the same instant by a cam 33 engaging a microswitch 34. In a modification (Fig. 6), the drive motor (66), (Fig. 5, not shown), carries on its drive shaft an eccentrically mounted pin 68 which is in engagement with a triangular plate 70 the latter carries rollers 73, 74 which co-operate in driving relation with guide surfaces on the underside of a drive sprocket 63. These surfaces are formed by a counterbore 76 in the lower end face of the sprocket 63 and a series of radial slots leading from the bore 76 to the periphery of the end face of the sprocket 63. The latter drives a chain 64 which extends around sprockets 62, 62, carried on extensions of sprockets 53, 54, of the actual workpiece carrier endless chain (51). A cam portion 87 of the plate 70 operates a system of levers (82), (83), (84), (Fig. 4, not shown), which cause pins (57), (69), on each carrier to be positively located in recesses in a fixed circular head (77) around which the chain (51) passes at the working area. The drive is stopped by the action of a microswitch 91 operated by a member on the plate 70. A groove around the head (77) for the passage of connectors between the chain (51) and the carriers is covered over by a freely rotatable plate (92), to prevent workpieces &c. falling into the groove. |
