A new process is disclosed for preparing 3,4-diaryl-5-isoxazolyl acetic acid derivatives having the general formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. In the formula (I), R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are the same or different and stand for hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl, Ar<1> and Ar<2> are the same or different and stand for phenyl or naphthyl substituted by R<1> and R<2> or by R<3> and R<4>. According to this process, appropriately substituted desoxybenzoinoximes are reacted with a carboxyl group-protected 3,3-dialkoxyacrylic acid derivative and the carboxyl protecting group is then removed. A compound having the above-mentioned general formula (I) is thus obtained that if required may be converted into a pharmaceutically acceptable salt. |
