摘要 1,095,077. Rear view mirrors for vehicles. Y. TALBOT. March 3, 1966 [March 5, 1965], No. 9281/66. Heading B7J. A rear view mirror for vehicles comprises a casing including a part having an opening in which a mirror is installed in a movable ring surrounding the mirror and made of chromed metal or of synthetic plastics surfaced with chromium galvanically or vapour deposited, the ring having its outer wall curved symmetrically with respect to the centre plane of the peripheral member perpendicular to the main axis thereof, so that the mirror with its ring can be adjusted in the rearward opening to tilt the optical axis relative to the casing. In an embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the mirror 1 is circular and is clamped in the hollow ring 2 split at 3, the outer periphery of the ring crosssection being curved with a radius R equal to one half the external diameter of the ring. The easing 6 includes a movable mirror support 5 of channel metal having a part-spherical front surface and formed with the rearward opening 4 which has a slight conical flare. A metal disc 9 bears on the mirror 1 and has a central eye engaged by a tension spring 10 which also engages in the head 11 of a straining bolt 11a rigidly connected to a centring disc 12 and held in a tapped socket 17 of the casing 6. A cup 14 on the bolt 11a is frictionally clampable to the mirror support 5 by a nut 16 and rubber buffer 15. The internal surface of the ring 2 may be flared conically towards the rear. Holes 23 are provided in the ring 2 for engagement by a wire hook for moving the mirror. In a modification (not shown), the head of the bolt 11a is formed as a hook engaging directly with the eye of the metal disc 9 and the buffer 15 is replaced by a compression spring. In another embodiment, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown), the rectangular mirror (31) is supported in a rectangular ring (32) which is adjustably held directly in the conically flared rectangular opening (20) of the casing (19), and the straining screw (11b) is hooked into an eye of the mirror plate (29) and screwed into a threaded tube (18) of the casing (19). The casing (19) is secured by screws (22) via a rubber or synthetic plastics plate (21) to the vehicle bodywork (8), and is tapered at one side only. The ring (32) has its periphery curved with different radii (R1) (R2) of curvature along longer and shorter sides, and is manufactured as a closed cast or moulded part of metal or synthetic plastics which is subsequently split to allow a spring fit of the mirror (31).
