<p>The effluent gases are passed into an aqueous suspension of a mixture of finely divided particulate mineral acid reactable alkaline earth metal contg. 3-4 wt. parts of mixed metallic oxides and 2-3 wt. parts of silicates, the oxides and silicates being of Grps. IA, IB, VII metals or Ca, Mg and Mn, the suspension having a pH of 8-9. The suspension is agitated to form sulphurous acid, sulphito salts and dihydrated silicic acid. Continued introduction of sulphure dioxide- contg. effluent gas creates a sulphur-enriched jelled system which is then contacted with reducer gas to recover at least a portion of the sulphur as elemental sulphur.</p> |
