Suction pipe coupling for pumping sewage - has by=pass fitted with shut=off valve

The pipe coupling is used for removing sewage from a sewage pipe by connecting the pipe to a source of vacuum. The coupling (1) has a spring loaded piston (16) which seals the coupling until it is fully connected to the suction pipe (14). A by-pass (2) with a shut-off valve (9) is fitted to the coupling. After the completion of the pumping operation but before the coupling is disconnected the shut-off valve (9) is opened to allow any solid residue to be flushed out of the coupling. USE - Sewage treatment. Removal of sewage from pipe.
