The subject of the invention is an instrument for drawing squares and rectangles without the use of compasses, rulers or set squares and without the need to measure each side. The measurement is taken once only and the square or rectangle is drawn in a single action. Referring to the figure, 1 is the upper set square graduated in centimetres along each side with both zeros in the corner, 2 is the lower set square graduated in centimetres along each side with both zeros in the corner, 3 is the screw-and-nut fastener which enables the set squares to be tightened and locked relative to each other, when the desired measurement has been taken, and thus enables the desired square or rectangle to be drawn. <IMAGE>
