The invention relates to a procedure for finishing rolls for hot-pilger rolling on a computer numerically controlled roll lathe in which the groove form of the rolls, expressed in composite curves which can be determined mathematically, is stored in a computer in such a way that it can be fetched from storage and in which the groove surface, which can be described at each point by the coordinate system of the axes, can be machined by linear and rotational movements of the tool, designed as a turning tool. In order to obtain an increase in output in a procedure of this type by optimising the cutting geometry at the tool, it is proposed according to the invention that the geometric form of the groove be produced by horizontal movement (X-axis) of the tool transversely to the roll axis, by horizontal movement (Z-axis) of the tool parallel to the roll axis, and by rotation (C-axis) of the roll, and that at the same time an optimum setting of the tool-edge cutting angles at each supporting point perpendicularly to the tangential plane of the groove be produced by vertical movement (Y-axis) of the tool transversely to the roll axis during rotation (A-axis) of the tool about its longitudinal axis. |
