PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilization method of sandboxes capable of inexpensively sterilizing the sandboxes without adverse effect on the human body and anxiety of being washed away by rain water and to obtain the particulate substance therefor. SOLUTION: This sterilization is carried out by mixing sand in sandboxes with the particulate substance prepared by coating sand particles with the thin film of titanium oxide when bacteria containing Escherichia coli in the sandboxes are sterilized. The particulate substance is prepared by allowing the suspension prepared by mixing powdery titanium oxide, water, an alcohol and an inorganic binder to adhere to the surface of the sand particles and then solidifying it. The thin film formed is about 5-100μm thickness. Since the thin film is about 5-100μm thickness, the size of the particulate substance is a degree the same as that of the sand particle and about 0.5-2.0 mm in the diameter. The specific gravity of the particulate substance is also a degree the same as that of sand, because the specific gravity of titanium oxide is a degree the same as that of sand.
