A process for the preparation of organic diesters which comprises the step (1) of reacting a diolefin with a peroxide to form a monoepoxide, the step (2) of reacting this monoepoxide with water and a carboxylic acid, and the step (3) of reacting the reaction products of the step (2) with an acid anhydride; another process as described above wherein the reaction of the monoepoxide with water and a carboxylic acid in the step (2) is conducted at a water/carboxylic acid molar ratio exceeding 2 but up to 20; another process as described above wherein the step (2) is replaced by the step of reacting the monoepoxide with water; and another process as described above wherein water and a carboxylic acid are recovered from the reaction product solution of the step (2) and recycled to the step (2). These processes enable the preparation of high-purity organic diesters from diolefins at high selectivity, and the recovery and reuse of water and acetic acid in the step (2) brings about a decrease in the drainage load. In particular, when 1,3-butadiene, acetic acid and acetic anhydride are used as the diolefin, the carboxylic acid and the acid anhydride respectively, the consumption of acetic acid can be decreased.
|
