PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an air conditioner having a high energy efficiency by increasing diffusing wind velocity in heating operation to create an indoor environment having a small temperature difference in the vertical direction and lowering suction air temperature of an indoor unit. SOLUTION: The air conditioner has a refrigerant circuit constituted of a compressor, an indoor heat exchanger and an outdoor heat exchanger; and an indoor unit having the indoor heat exchanger, a blower and a plurality of outlets, and installed at an elevated position in a room. In heating operation, some of the outlets are closed at a predetermined air volume to increase diffusing wind velocities from the open outlets.
