<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for a gas diffusion electrode excellent in power generation characteristics and durability, to provide a method of manufacturing the same, and to provide a gas diffusion electrode. <P>SOLUTION: The material for the gas diffusion electrode has a conductive material supported by a porous body having three-dimensional continuous fine pores formed of continuous and discontinuous PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene) fine fiber. The PTFE fiber has a part with low density and a part with high density from a surface area over to a rear-face area of a porous body cross section. A PTFE thin film is drawn to be a porous body, and a conductive material is made included in the three-dimensional continuous fine pores to satisfy a formula expressed in: (PTFE):(Conductor)=20 to 60:80 to 40. In the method of manufacturing the material for the gas diffusion electrode, (1) a porous body formed of continuous and discontinuous PTFE fine fiber and having three-dimensional continuous fine pores is made hydrophilic, (2) slurries containing the conductive material are infiltrated into and adhered to the porous body made hydrophilic, and (3) the porous body with the conductive material adhered is put under heat treatment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
