<p>Cutting tools, pref. razor blades partic. for use in coil shaving machines and also knives and scalpels, are produced by heating and quenching martensitic stainless and semi-stainless steels, pref. containing 6-18, partic. 10-18, esp. 12-16% Cr and 0.4-1.25, pref. 0.5-1% C, under conditions resulting in 35-95%, pref. 40-90% residual austenite content and subsequently hardening cutting edge by cold-deformation until residual austenite content in this range is at least 30%. Cold-deformation is pref. limited to cutting edge zone, so that appreciable part of article has >=35% austenite content, and is pref. carried out by sharpening while steel cutting edge zones are honed.</p> |
