PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apelin which can be used for preventing and treating various diseases by cleaving a peptide bond of a fused protein which is prepared by linking a (modified) apelin to the N-terminal of a protein having cysteine in its N-terminal. SOLUTION: An apelin (or its salt) which can be used for preventing and treating various diseases such as senile, infectious, cancerous, and traumatic dementia, diabetes, and cancers is industrially advantageously obtained by cleaving a peptide bond at the amino group side of the cysteine residue of a fused protein or peptide which is prepared by linking an apelin which can has an (oxidized) methionine residue in its N-terminal to the N-terminal of a protein or peptide having cysteine in its N-terminal to give an apelin (or its salt) having an (oxidized) methionine residue which in its N-terminal, reacting the obtained apelin (or its salt) having an (oxidized) methionine residue in its N-terminal with anα-diketone, followed by hydrolyzing the obtained compound to remove the methionine residue.
|
