SOLUTION: In the projector 100, cooling air circulates in a cooling air flow path from an air inlet 455 arranged near an optical apparatus 44 to an air outlet 456 arranged near an integrator illumination optical system 41 through a flow path hole 454. The optical unit 4 communicates with the outside only through the air inlet 455 and the air outlet 456. Thus, the cooling air circulates in the cooling air flow path from the air inlet 455 to the air outlet 456 without running off. Consequently, the cooling air circulates in all the optical components 41, 42, 43 and 44 arranged between the air inlet 455 and the air outlet 456, thereby enhancing the cooling efficiency.
