A method and an apparatus for reproducing and producing contents are provided to select an advertisement inserted into the contents with reference to information about advertisements inserted to the contents, and insert the selected contents to contents received from a media server, and reproduce the contents, thereby enabling a contents user to dynamically select an advertisement which the contents user oneself watches. A client selects an advertisement to be inserted into contents which the client reproduces based on received information about advertisements which is transmitted from an advertisement server(246). As the advertisement to be inserted into the contents which the client reproduces is received, additional information about the received advertisement is received together(250). The client inserts the received advertisement into the received contents and reproduces contents(252). After the reproduction of the contents is terminated, the client extracts only the advertisement inserted into the reproduced contents and reproduces the extracted advertisement again(254).
