1,242,499. Bearings. M. BAERMANN. 5 Nov., 1969 [5 Nov., 1968], No. 54272/69. Heading F2A. A permanent magnetic bearing has magnets 19, 20, Fig. 1, which repel each other and have an air-gap 22 therebetween. The magnet 19 is secured to a rotatable shaft 1 which has a meter braking disc 15 mounted thereon, the disc being received in an air-gap 16 formed between meter braking magnets 23, 24; and the magnet 20 is carried by a temperature-responsive member 21 in a member 7. The member 21 may be a bi-metallic member as shown in Fig. 2 and which is provided with a ring 25 to prevent radial expansion thereof, may be a bi-metallic member 36, Fig. 3, which comprises a pair of members 40, each having a portion 37 formed of a material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion such as an iron-nickel alloy and having a portion 38 formed of a material having a high coefficient of thermal expansion such as an alloy comprising manganese, copper and nickel, and may be fluid 27, Fig. 4, which is in an elastic container 26. The shaft, having a bearing 12 or 14 at each end thereof, is supported radially by needles 3, 4, the former being supported on a pedestal 2 via a member 5 and the latter being supported on the pedestal 2 via a pin 6 which is mounted in a bore 10 of the member 7. |
