A weakly foaming detergent composition comprises (A) at least one compound selected from anionic, amphoteric and non-ionic surfactants and inorganic and organic builder salts, (B) at least one propoxylated and/or butoxylated melamine of molecular weight from 700 to 20,000, the proportions by wt. of (A) to (B) being from 999: 1 to 3 : 1. The alkoxylated melamines preferably have a molecular weight of 1200 12,000 and may be obtained by reacting 1 mol. of melamine with 4 to 25 mols of propylene oxide and subsequently with 10 to 50 mol. of butylene oxide. Mixtures of differently alkoxylated melamines may be used. Many types of surfactants are listed including soaps, amine oxides and sulphoxides. Conventional builder salts may be present. Optional ingredients are (a) bleaching agents e.g. alkali metal perborates, percarbonates or perphosphates, urea perhydrate, alkali metal hypochlorites, chlorinated trisodium phosphate, chlorinated cyanuric acid and its alkali metal salts, (b) bleaching agent activators and stabilizers e.g. magnesium silicate, (c) enzymes selected from proteases, lipases and amylases, (d) greying inhibitors e.g. sodium cellulose glycollate, (e) disinfectants, dyestuffs and perfumes, (f) optical brighteners of diaminostilbene disulphonic acid and diarylpyrazoline type, (g) foam inhibitors e.g. C 25 -C 24 fatty acids or their alkali metal soaps, (h) solubilizers e.g. ethanol, isopropanol and alkali metal salts of benzene sulphonic acid and (i) skin-protecting agents e.g. fatty acid mono- and dialkylolamides. The compositions may be in liquid, paste or solid form.</p> |
