In a process for the purification of human or animal plasminogen in which an aliphatic amino acid compatible with the plasminogen is included in a mixture including also the plasminogen to be purified, the mixture is subsequently allowed or caused to separate into two phases one of which is an anion exchanger and the other of which is a water-miscible hydrophilic polymer, whereafter the latter phase contaning the purified plasminogen is isolated. The anion exchanger phase may comprise DEAE-dextran, DEAE-cellulose or an anion-exchange resin; the hydrophilic polymer may be polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone or methyl cellulose; the amino acid may be lysine, gamma-amino-butyric acid, ornithine, epsilon-amino-caproic acid, arginine, glycine, guanidino-acetic acid, creatine, betaalanine, DL-valine, DL-leucine, DL-isoleucine, DL-norleucine, L(+)-aspartic acid, L(+)-citrulline, alpha-N-acetyl-L-arginine or glycyl glycine. |
