PURPOSE:To obtain a plate blank high in sensitivity and durability in printing and easy to manufacture, by a method wherein an electric charge feeding layer is provided on a conductive base, and an electric charge generating layer comprising an electric charge generating substance and a silylated polyvinyl alcohol or a reaction product thereof with a crosslinking agent is provided thereon. CONSTITUTION:The electric charge feeding layer 2 comprising an electric charge feeding substance as a main constituent is provided on the conductive base 1, and the electric charge generating layer 3 comprising an electric charge generating substance and a silylated polyvinyl alcohol or a reaction product thereof with a crosslinking agent and having a surface which can be made to be hydrophilic is provided thereon. The silylated polyvinyl alcohol or the reaction product, per se, is hydrophobic and has sufficient resistance for holding an electrostatic latent image, but when it is treated with an acidic or alkaline aqueous solu tion, silyl ether groups are hydrolyzed to form original hydroxyl groups, thereby providing hydrophilic nature, which enables printing. Since the surface of the layer 3 becomes hydrophilic but not water-soluble and has sufficient water resistance, durability in printing can be obtained. |
