FIBROUS METAL OXIDE CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fibrous metal oxide catalyst manufactured by using a hydrogel as a starting material without using the conventional sol-gel process. SOLUTION: The fibrous metal oxide catalyst containing a metal oxide fiber is manufactured by spinning a hydrogel-containing liquid raw material into a fibrous shape to obtain a fibrous material and firing the obtained fibrous material. The liquid raw material preferably contains the hydrogel and a polymer compound. A noble metal of 0.01-50 wt.% can be further deposited on the metal oxide fiber. Since the hydrogel is used as the starting material, the fibrous metal oxide catalyst useful for various uses can be manufactured without being restricted by the kind of a metal oxide and without using an organic solvent.
