PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gap filling material certainly burying the gap formed when a waste is buried/treated and stopping water so as to eliminate fear that a substance in the waste is leaked out to ground water and is leaked out to a surface of earth, and a water-shielding method using the gap filling material. SOLUTION: In the water-shielding method, the gap filling material is filled in the gap formed at a buried place of the waste when the waste is buried/treated to perform a water-shielding treatment of the buried place. The method is provided with a step for arranging the waste at the buried place and covering the waste with a burying material 15, a step for filling a bentonite based high density solid body 17 in the gap S2 formed at the buried place where it is buried/treated by the burying material 15, and a step for filling a bentonite slurry 18 containing a hydrophilic organic solvent, water and bentonite or a bentonite slurry containing inorganic acids, water and bentonite in the void formed between the bentonite based high density solid bodies 17.
