PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an open hot-air type heater capable of surely and highly accurately detecting the air pollution in a room. SOLUTION: The inside of a housing 1 of this open hot-air type heater is partitioned into a combustion chamber 6 for storing a combustion part 9 of a burner 8, and a primary air chamber 7 for storing a primary air suction port 13b provided at the tip of a mixing pipe part 13a of the burner 8. The housing 1 is provided with a secondary air inlet 12 for introducing secondary air for the combustion into the combustion chamber 6, and a primary air inlet 21 for introducing primary air for the combustion into the primary air chamber 7. The primary air inlet 21 is provided at a position separated from the secondary air inlet 12. A sensor 22 for detecting the air pollution is provided in an area formed with an air flow running from the outside of the housing 1 to the suction port 13b of the primary air chamber 7 via the primary air inlet 21.
