In a shutter of the type comprising a series of laths 1 supported on belts (not shown) such that when the belts are tensioned the laths separate from each other in the vertical direction to admit light through the separating spaces and when the belts are slackened the laths close together under gravity, and wherein ventilation apertures A are provided in the laths, there is provided a series of horizontal slats 5 each associated with a lath 1 and movable between open and closed positions, in the latter of which the slats lie parallel to the laths to cover the apertures A each slat 5 being hingedly connected at its upper end to a lower portion 4 of the lath next above its associated lath as by interengaging hook sides 2, 3, the slat also being provided with a flange 7 engaging an upper portion of the associated lath 1 so that as the belts are tensioned and the laths move apart the slats 5 are constrained to pivot to their closed positions and on slackening of the belts the slats move to their -open positions. Such shutters may be raised and stored on rollers. |
