[Also in Division H1] In a method of securing an electrical component to a panel a bridging member 27, for- ming part of a mounting bracket 24 of metal or plastics material is caused to engage in a notch 25 provided in an electrically non- conductive base 12 which forms part of or carries the electrical component, gripping portions 29 on two spaced resilient arms 28 extending from the bridging member are caused to engage from opposite sides in a further notch 26 or notches provided in the base, and panel-engaging means connected to the bridging member 27 act to secure the bracket to the panel, such means comprising two spaced legs 30 for engagement in a slot in the panel and each of the legs having an outwardly facing notch 31 for engaging tightly over an edge of the slot in the panel. In modifications, (a) the legs 30 are disposed at an angle of 90‹ to the arms 28 and (b) the legs 30 are splayed apart and are formed with notches for engaging over an edge of the slot in the panel. The electrical component, as shown, comprises a resistance element 14 consisting of a carbon film 15. deposited on an arcuate strip 16 of insulating material and secured to the base 12, or deposited directly on the base, the ends of the film being connected by conductive path 18 to terminals 17, and a flat ring collector 19 integral with a centre terminal 20 is mounted coaxially with an opening 13 and element 14; a driver 22, moulded to a rotatable shaft 21 secured in the opening 13, carries a contactor 23 having contacts 23a, 23b in wiping contact with the element 14 and collector .19 respectively. Alternatively, the resistance control device could be of the rectilinear type wherein a contactor is moved rectilinearly intermediate the ends of the resistance element. . |
