A desalination process operates by passing a gas flow (esp. a flow of air) in a cycle through hot salt water, then a cooling heat exchanger, then a separator where the condensed fresh water is drawn off; from the separator the cooled air is mixed with cold incoming sea water and passes back through the heat exchanger in counter-flow, thus receiving heat, to re-enter the hot water vessel. The unavoidable lost heat is compensated by supplying heat to the heated salt water, e.g. by an electrical heater in the hot water vessel in the vicinity of the blown-in-air.
