1523389 Moulding elastomeric rolls AMES RUBBER CORP 20 Sept 1976 [26 Jan 1976] 38920/76 Heading B5A A metal cored elastomeric roll (e.g. for electrostatic printing) having a protective sleeve 7 (e.g. of PTFE) is made by placing the metal core 11 in a mould 1, locating the protective sleeve 7 within the mould spaced from the mould walls, injecting air into the mould to expand the sleeve into contact with the mould walls, and injecting rubber between the core 11 and the sleeve 7 to form the roll. The air pressure is applied through an adapter 19 and passages in a plug 10, and is maintained during injection of silicone rubber 20 by a ram (not shown) through passages in a plug 6. The sleeve is initially held away from the mould walls by locating its ends in annular spaces formed between rings 4, 8 and the plugs 6, 10. The rubber is allowed to overflow into the air adapter 19 which is then removed, and end caps 21, 22 with bleed holes 23, 24 (Fig. 5, not shown) are attached while the mould is heated to cure the rubber. |
