Impact enhanced prepregs and formulations

A prepreg formulation comprising prepreg filament fibers unidirectionally aligned, and/or woven and nonwoven fibrics, a thermosetting matrix resin and thin surface layers of extremely fine fibers of a thermoformable polymer having at least one of a Tm or Tg greater than about 300 DEG C. or no Tm or Tg and a decomposition temperature greater than about 300 DEG C. The preferred matrix resin is a blend of a thermosetting epoxy resin and an amorphous thermoplastic polymer that has a Tg greater than about 195 DEG C. The invention contemplates the addition of small amounts of a Cr(III) complex and inorganic whiskers.
