PURPOSE: An apparatus for setting a port address of a computer system is provided to lower a limit in the number of set port addresses, remove inconvenience in opening a system when a port address is changed, and prevent an unauthorized user from changing the port address, by including an address decoding logic that can change the port address in a software manner. CONSTITUTION: A microprocessor is connected to a parallel bus(1) such as an ISA bus. The parallel bus(1) is connected to a decoding logic part(21) mounted on an interface board(20). The interface board(20) controls the operation timing between the microprocessor and input output devices. An encryption read part(22), which prevents the unauthorized user from changing the port address, is installed on the interface board(20). An address setting register(23) stores the port address to be set and the changed port address.
