PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chitosan-containing polymer emulsion having a good dispersion stability and an average particle size of 1μm or smaller without using non-polymerizable acid. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a chitosan-containing polymer emulsion having an average particle size of 1μm or smaller, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer is polymerized in the presence of chitosan having at least a part of its amino groups neutralized with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an acid-functional group, the polymerization being conducted without using a nonpolymerizable acid.
