<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a router for smoothly shifting from a current network to a Diffserv network capable of ensuring a communication quality. <P>SOLUTION: The router has a Diffserv function 1 for determining priority information from packet header information or the like required for shifting to the Diffserv network, a Diffserv function 2 for determining priority information from a DS field, a Diffserv function 3 for determining a value of a DS field to rewrite from the packet header information, and has a mode for switching the above functions in a Diffserv mode table 841 for each input line.
