The engine has a chromatic filter (2) including two sets of juxtaposed sectors succeeding each other along a displacement direction (10), where the sectors have different bandwidths. A piezoelectric motor (6) is coupled to the filter to translate the filter along the displacement direction. A light modulator (8) comprising micro-reflectors modulates light beams (12) traversing the filter.
