A static converter station, particularly for high-voltage transmission, has on its A.C. side an LCR filter of which part can be by-passed by a switch controlled by the operating conditions of the converter, e.g. pulse number or harmonic content. Filters associated with two series bridges giving 12-pulse operation may thus be adjusted if failure of one bridge requires the converter to continue in 6-pulse operation. Also if the filter is detuned with ageing or temperature its resistance can be increased to limit the current. In one form (Fig. 1, not shown) four filters containing L, C and R in series and tuned to different harmonics have their resistors capable of being shorted by relay contacts controlled by the converters. In another form (Fig. 2, not shown) the contacts progressively short out sections of the resistor. |
