Water cooled reactor fuel element - position holders

The fuel elements are held at their proper spacing by a system of spring U-bolts and outward curving pieces on the grid. Inside the grid mesh in two places parallel to the fuel rod axis, one or two outward curving pieces are arranged opposite the spring U-bolts. The latter are secured (by hanging in clearances in the grid) against shifting vertically in relation to the fuel element axis, whilst axial displacement by distortion of the ends is prevented.
