In the card shown, a spider roller 8 (rotated only by moving flats 4) comprises fins 81 which fit into the spaces between the flats and break the material into strips which, upon removal by an oscillating comb 5, fall into a catching container 61. A screen 613 separates the main part of the container 61 from a trough 612 connected at opposite ends to air supply and suction ducts 63 (62) through the latter of which the material is withdrawn from the card. Comb 5 may be positioned obliquely, Fig. 2 (not shown) so as to be inclined parallel to the flats; the tips of the comb teeth sweep past the flats sequentially so that removal of material commences at one end of each flat and progresses therealong to the other end. |
