The rotary impeller discharge for residue which failed to pass through the strainer 9, 10 of a centrifugal strainer comprises a plurality of sleeves 11 individually secured on a shaft 5, each sleeve supporting a semi-annular inclined impeller plate 13 (see also Fig. 2, not shown). The basket and the impeller are rotatable at independent speeds. As described, sleeves 11 are axially adjustable, being secured by set screws 12 to shaft 5. Hence the time that the suspension tarries in different regions of the basket may be controlled. Incoming suspension at 14 passes through a distributor 15-17. The basket comprises a filter screen 10 and discharge holes 9. Basket and impeller are respectively driven by pulleys 4, 8 through variable gearing from a common prime mover. |
