Process for the prepn. of alpha,beta,beta-trifluorostyrene comprises (1) reacting chlorinated and fluorinated 2-phenyl-propan-2-ol(s) of formula CF2Cl-C(OH)(C6H5)-CFnCl3-n (where n = 1, 2 or 3) with an alkali and solvent at up to reflux, (b) isolating the solid residue and (c) condensing the alpha,beta,beta-trifluorostyrene from dry distillation. Esp. for ion exchange resins.
