The invention relates to a method for drying a product, in particular a bulk material, guided on a belt, in which the vapours which arise during drying are used as the drying medium and are moved in a circuit by a blower. The aim is to design such a method in an especially energy-saving and environmentally suitable manner. To this end, the vapours are, directly before entry into the drying zone, superheated to such an extent that they can provide the energy necessary for the drying. A quantity of vapour equivalent to the newly arising vapours is constantly removed as excess vapour from the circuit and condensed. The product to be dried is, before introduction into the drying zone, preheated by using a part of the condensation heat which is released during the condensation of the excess vapour.
