An injection moulding machine has an axially reciprocable injection screw 12 in an injection cylinder 10 which can be pivoted into and out of register with the inlet of a mould 4, 6, and means 83, (100...102) responsive to pre-determined retraction of the screw 12 to swing the cylinder 10 from a position in which its nozzle 11 is out of register with the mould inlet to a position in which it is in register therewith. In one example, Fig. 4, Fig. 9 (not shown), the injection nozzle 11 has a cylindrical or part-spherical end face of the same curvature as a sprue insert member 60. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown) the nozzle has a spherical tip (62) engaging a depression (63) in an insert (64) which is slidable laterally with respect to a sprue bushing (65). Pivoting of the cylinder 10 is effected by a double acting cylinder 83 and piston rod 84 carrying a vertical shaft 85 engaged in a T-slot 86 in a collar member 70 surrounding the cylinder 10. The injection cylinder can be further pivoted to the position seen in Fig. 2 (not shown) for cleaning purposes, by first moving the cylinder 10 axially to disengage the parts 85, 86 and then by pulling a handle 94. Axial movement of the injection cylinder 10 is effected by a cylinder 91 whose piston-rod 92 is connected to a head 72 engaging a T-slot member 73 secured on the mould frame 3. The injection screw 12 is moved axially to effect injection by fluid pressure cylinders 58 and pistons 57. The screw 12 is keyed in the hub member 34 of a drive gear 35 which is driven through a pinion 40, Fig. 3, clutch 41 and four-speed drive unit 45 by an electric motor 43.
